Detail: With a declaration from government sources, Jordan has declared that data matrix will be used in all medications. Therefore, the data matrix should be used as the data carrier during serialization. Due to the pandemic and other considerations, the term originally planned to serialize the medications through the end of 2019 was extended to the end of 2021. The notice that was published later stated that the deadline for the postponement was December 30, 2022.

However, the Jordanian Food and Drug Administration has issued a new circular, where the deadline for data matrix application and serialization in secondary packaging of pharmaceutical products is 30 June 2023.

UPDATE:

JFDA has issued a new circular extending the application deadline for serialization using data matrix in secondary packaging of regulated pharmaceutical products by September 30, 2023.

UPDATE: 

By January 1, 2014: The two-dimensional GS1 DataMatrix barcode must be in accordance with the ISO Standardized Pharmaceutical System, and printed on the outer packaging. The Datamatrix application on the outer packaging must contain GTIN Number, Batch/Lot Number, Expiration Date and Serial Number. 

UPDATE: 

According to a new circular issued by the JFDA, the deadline for implementing DataMatrix and serialization on secondary packaging of regulated pharmaceutical products has been extended until  31 December 2024. This decision allows stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry more time for preparation and compliance.

The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has issued a circular extending the deadline for the requirement of DataMatrix codes and serial numbers on secondary packaging for pharmaceuticals to June 30, 2025.
